  • Acetates

Acetates are either a salt or ester of acetic acid and are formed by reacting acetic acid with a suitable base. The majority of acetic acid production is used to manufacture acetates, which have many different uses and applications, from solvents and components within surface coatings through to the production of fibers. Shrieve markets the following acetates:

    • Ethyl
    • N-Butyl
    • Isopropyl
    • N-Propyl
    • PM

Alcohols are a large group of organic compounds that contain the –OH group, which gives them specific properties useful to industry. Shrieve markets a range of industrial alcohols, which include:

    • Butanol
    • Ethanol
    • Furfuryl
    • Iso Propyl Alcohol
    • Methanol
    • Propanol
  • Aldehydes

An aldehyde is an organic compound that contains the carbonyl functional group –CHO. The most common industrial aldehyde – Formaldehyde, is predominantly used in the production of resins. Shrieve markets:

    • Formaldehyde
    • Para-formaldehyde
  • Aliphatics

An important group of non-aromatic hydrocarbon compounds with a variety of uses across industry, predominantly as some form of process solvent. Shrieve’s portfolio includes:

    • Heptane
    • Hexane
    • Mineral Spirits
    • 142 Solvent
  • Amines

Amines are organic compounds that are considered as derivatives of ammonia (NH3), where one of the hydrogen atoms have been substituted by an alkyl (gen: CnH2n+1) or aryl (e.g. phenyl, C6H5) group. Amines have many different uses as precursors within the chemicals, pharmaceuticals and other industries. Shrieve markets the following amines:

    • DEA
    • MEA
    • TEA
  • Aromatics

Aromatics are organic compounds where the carbon atoms within the molecule are linked by alternating double and single bonds, with the molecule itself comprised of a ring shaped structure. Aromatics form a variety of basic building blocks within the chemicals and associated industries and the most common are derivatives of benzene (C6H6). Shrieve’s aromatics distribution includes the following:

    • Toluene
    • Xylene
    • Aromatic 100 & 150
  • Base Oils

Shrieve distributes a variety of API Group I-III hydrocarbon base oils to customers from refiners across the South Eastern USA. In addition, we are able to supply polyalphaolefins (PAO – API Group IV) and have expertise in polyalkylene glycol and polyol ester chemistries (API Group V) as base fluids in fully formulated specialty lubricants.

    • Paraffinic
    • Naphthenic
  • Chlor-Alkali

Shrieve expanded into the chlor-alkali market in 2010 and since this time we have seen significant growth in the supply of caustic soda and other products within the portfolio in the US market.

  • Gluconates

Gluconates are derivatives of gluconic acid (C6H1207). Shrieve distributes a variety of gluconates into the construction, food, pharmaceutical and textile industries:

    • Calcium
    • potassium
    • sodium
    • manganese gluconates
  • Inorganic Acids

Shrieve’s core business within North America is the distribution of sulfuric acid by truck, rail, barge and vessel. We are experts in the distribution of acids to industry and our portfolio includes:

    • Hydrochloric
    • Hydrofluorosilicic
    • Nitric
    • Phosphoric
  • Ketones

Ketones (and aldehydes) are organic compounds that possess a carbonyl group (C=O). The industrial solvent acetone is the smallest molecular structure ketone and Shrieve distributes a number of solvent ketones:

    • Acetone
    • MEK
    • MIBK
    • DAA
    • Cyclohexanone
  • Organic Acids

Most organic acids tend to be weaker than mineral acids and have varying degrees of solubility in water. Examples of organic acids are carboxylic acids with their acidic properties coming from the carboxyl group (-COOH). Carboxylic acids include acetic (ethanoic) acid (CH3COOH), which is used in a variety of chemical processes, while adipic acid (a dicarboxylic acid), is used in the manufacture of nylon. Citric acid is a tricarboxylic acid and occurs in its natural form in citrus fruits. Large amounts of citric acid are produced and used within the food and other industries. Shrieve distributes the following organic acids:

    • Acetic
    • Adipic
    • Citric
  • Nitrogen Products

Shrieve has developed significant expertise in the marketing of ammonia and ammonium derivatives and is a major distributor across the USA. Our combined knowledge and supply position on both sulphur and nitrogen products allows us to provide a significant value-added service to the fertilizer and other industries.

  • Phosphates

Phosphates exist either in an inorganic state as salts of phosphoric acid or as esters in an organic state. Phosphate minerals are the naturally occurring form of phosphorous and inorganic phosphates are mined around the world for the production of elemental phosphorous. Phosphate esters have a variety of applications from lubricant or hydraulic base fluids and additives to anionic surfactants. Shrieve offers a range of phosphates and details are available on request.
