BIO BASE™ - BASE FLUID PROPERTIES

Base Fluids - Olefins, Synthetic Paraffins, Esters and their blends.  These fluids offer many beneficial properties which include zero aromatics, high flash points and low pour points, improved occupational hygiene profiles as well as good biodegradability and marine toxicology. The BIO-BASETM linear paraffin range includes a variety of different cuts and blends to meet your specific requirements. Our LAO products also consist of different cuts or blends including C14 and C14-16 grades, although again we can tailor this range of products to meet your exact requirements.

BIO-BASE®100LF:
Is part of Shell Chemicals’ Premium series of synthetic olefin and paraffin drilling base fluids.  Ideal for both deep and shallow water applications, BIO-BASE®100LF helps reduce the risks associated with offshore discharges.  BIO-BASE®100LF biodegrades under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions, is non-toxic in the water column, and has low sediment toxicity.  This product has a low viscosity and pour point and will perform as well or better than traditional diesel or mineral oil based fluids. BIO-BASE®100LF is fully compliant with the new US EPA Gulf of Mexico discharge regulations issued in October 2004.  BIO-BASE®100LF is an internal olefin with a carbon chain length between C15 and C18.  BIO-BASE®100LF has the lowest C14 content of any “compliant internal olefin” on the market today.

BIO-BASE®360:
Is a blend of Shell Chemicals’ Standard level series of paraffin drilling fluids.  BIO-BASE®360 is ideal for land-based applications.  BIO-BASE®360 biodegrades aerobically and is non-toxic in the water column.  The product has a low viscosity and pour point and performs as well or better than mineral oil based fluids.  BIO-BASE®360 is a blend of iso-paraffins and linear paraffins with a carbon chain length rich in C15 and C16.

BIO-BASE®410 Link to Shrieve Data Sheet

BIO-BASE®410:
BIO-BASE®410
base fluid is a vegetable based Ester.  Ideal applications for esters are in deepwater applications and in shelf drilling where bottom hole temperatures of less than 350F are expected.  These are excellent base fluids for drilling fluid formulations due to their superior drilling performance and enhanced aquatic toxicity. Vegetable esters are readily biodegradable under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
