BIO-ADD® DRILLING MUD EMULSIFIERS

Shrieve emulsifiers are used in oil or synthetic-based fluids to help form a stable water-in-oil emulsion. The base fluids and emulsifier blend provide the foundation for a drilling fluid (mud) system with additions of gellants (often organophilic clays for viscosity), wetting agents, salts, and typically lime for alkalinity.

Oil muds have performance advantages over standard water-based muds, with increased drilling rate and bit life, reduction in hole problems, reduction of torque, less sticking of pipe, and less hole enlargement. They can also be recycled and reused from one well to the next.

We offer a range of different Emulsifier options available for drilling fluid systems. They differ in technical performance from generic oil-based mud emulsifiers through to high-performance, high-temperature products. Our range is detailed in the tabbed section below. 

BIO-ADD 733

A surfactant, based on an ether of carboxylic acid, that functions as a nitrogen-free emulsifier for oil-based and synthetic-based drilling muds. It has high-temperature stability, above 450°F (232°C), and low toxicity.

BIO-ADD 5001

An emulsifier that functions as a secondary emulsifier for oil-based drilling muds at high-temperature applications. It provides surfactant properties to oil wet the solids, increase electrical stability, and form stable emulsions at 400°F (204°C). 

BIO-ADD 5052

A formulated fatty acid amide derivative used as a secondary emulsifier for use in oil-based (and synthetic-based) muds. BIO-ADD 5052 to enhances the emulsion stability when used with BIO-ADD 6068 primary emulsifier. This secondary emulsifier is readily dispersible in all base oils and contributes to reduced fluid loss control in invert fluid systems.

BIO-ADD 6001

A blend of a polyamide with selected fatty acid derivatives that functions as a primary emulsifier for oil-based drilling muds. It forms a calcium soap, which enhances the viscosity properties of the emulsion. 

BIO-ADD 6030

A blend of selected emulsifiers and fluid stabilizers that functions as a primary emulsifier for oil-based drilling muds. When used with a secondary emulsifier, such as BIO-ADD 5001, emulsion stability, viscosity, and filtration control are further improved.

BIO-ADD 6032

blend of selected emulsifiers and fluid stabilizers that functions as a primary emulsifier for oil-based drilling muds. When used with a secondary emulsifier, such as BIO-ADD 5001, emulsion stability, viscosity, and filtration control are further improved.

BIO-ADD 6065

This product is designed as a secondary emulsifier formulated to enhance the performance of BIO-ADD 6067 primary emulsifier. This secondary emulsifier is readily dispersible in all base oils and creates strong emulsions with high voltage stability in invert fluid systems.

BIO-ADD 6067

A primary emulsifier used in oil-based (or synthetic-based) drilling muds. This product provides stable emulsions with resistance to temperature (stable above 200°C) and contamination while maintaining good fluid loss properties in the mud. System performance is enhanced when used with the secondary emulsifier BIO-ADD 6065.

BIO-ADD 6068

A formulated amide for use as a primary emulsifier in oil-based drilling muds. This product provides stable emulsions with resistance to temperature and contamination while maintaining good fluid loss properties in the mud. System performance is enhanced when used together with the secondary emulsifier BIO-ADD 5052.
